As Source 1 Solutions evaluated its next stage of growth, Founder and CEO Rob Hessel recognized that the company had reached a strategic inflection point. Having built a strong reputation and loyal customer base across complex technology solutions, Source 1 was preparing to execute an ambitious five-year growth strategy designed to significantly expand its presence across managed services, channel partnerships and international markets.
The objective was not simply growth, but the deliberate evolution of a successful midmarket technology company into a scalable enterprise organization capable of competing on a global stage. The strategy would be driven through expanded engagement with existing customers, organic market development, strategic acquisitions and international expansion, supported by a senior leadership team and operational infrastructure capable of sustaining that growth.
HCP Associates was engaged not simply as a marketing agency, but as a strategic growth partner. Working closely with Source 1 leadership, HCP helped align market positioning, corporate communications, brand strategy, executive positioning and marketing initiatives with the company’s broader business objectives. HCP’s technology experience and ability to become immersed in complex organizations allowed the relationship to develop well beyond traditional marketing support.
Through that work, HCP identified a defining characteristic of Source 1 that transcended its individual technologies and services. Hessel had built the company around a belief in relationships before deals, supported by an #ALL IN culture emphasizing accountability, trust and commitment to customers and partners. Technology powered the solutions Source 1 delivered, but people and relationships remained central to how the company operated.
HCP translated that philosophy into a positioning platform capable of supporting the organization as it grew: Our Source Code is Humanity.
Founder & CEO Source 1 Solutions
Technology companies face an unusual marketing and communications challenge. The people who understand the technology best are often the same people with the least amount of time to explain it. That was particularly true at Source 1, where leadership was focused on customers, operations, technology, partnerships and an increasingly ambitious growth strategy.
Previous outside marketing resources often required significant education before they could produce meaningful work. Source 1 needed a partner capable of understanding a sophisticated technology organization, communicating credibly with technical and executive audiences, and connecting marketing decisions to the broader direction of the business.
HCP brought technology marketing experience dating to the early commercial Internet and dot-com era, when the firm worked with major technology companies, developed technical white papers, supported major industry trade shows and translated emerging technologies for business audiences. Rather than asking Source 1 leadership to continually simplify the business, HCP immersed itself in the company’s technologies, customers, competitors, partners, terminology, services and vertical markets.
As Source 1 prepared for its next stage of growth, the challenge extended beyond communicating individual services. The company needed a brand and communications platform capable of supporting new markets, new capabilities, strategic acquisitions, international expansion and an increasingly sophisticated enterprise organization without losing the culture and customer relationships that had fueled its success.
For Source 1, research has never been limited to a formal discovery phase. It is an ongoing process of understanding a technology marketplace that continually changes, along with the customers, competitors and industries affected by that change.
HCP works closely with Source 1 leadership, technical teams and subject-matter experts to understand its services, competitive environment, emerging technologies and evolving market opportunities. That knowledge enables HCP to develop news releases, technical articles, executive communications, thought leadership and industry content across managed services, cybersecurity, enterprise infrastructure, RF, life safety, physical security and electronic component sourcing.
The research also extends into Source 1’s vertical markets. A stadium or entertainment venue presents fundamentally different technology challenges than a hospital, financial institution, government agency or global enterprise. Understanding those differences allows HCP to communicate Source 1’s capabilities credibly to highly specialized audiences while maintaining a consistent corporate story.
Continual immersion in the business also provided a broader strategic insight. As HCP examined Source 1’s technology, customers, culture and growth objectives, the company’s most meaningful differentiator was not a particular product or service. It was the way Source 1 built and maintained relationships around the technology it delivered.
Source 1 operates in a highly competitive environment in which sophisticated technology, certifications and technical capabilities are essential. HCP’s strategic challenge was to identify a position that could differentiate the organization while remaining relevant as technologies, markets and services continued to evolve.
The answer was found in the culture Hessel had already built. His belief in relationships before deals extended throughout the organization and was reinforced by Source 1’s #ALL IN culture: taking ownership, supporting one another and committing fully to the customers and partners depending on the company. These were not marketing concepts created by HCP. They were characteristics already evident in the way Source 1 operated.
HCP translated those characteristics into Our Source Code is Humanity, a positioning platform that placed people at the center of a technology brand. The concept connected Hessel’s leadership philosophy, Source 1’s culture, its employees, customers and partners, and the technologies the company deploys and supports around the world.
Importantly, the positioning was designed to scale. Source 1’s technologies would continue to evolve, its geographic footprint could expand, acquisitions could introduce new capabilities and its customer base could become increasingly diverse. Our Source Code is Humanity provided a consistent organizing idea capable of connecting those changes to the values that had built the company in the first place.
HCP translated the strategy into an integrated communications program spanning public relations, digital, social media, thought leadership, sales support, websites, video, animation, motion graphics, trade shows and international marketing. Rather than treating those disciplines as individual assignments, the work was developed around a consistent understanding of Source 1’s business objectives, audiences and positioning.
HCP developed Source 1’s award-winning B2B digital presence, creating a platform capable of communicating an increasingly sophisticated portfolio of technology solutions while maintaining the accessibility and human connection central to the brand. The work earned a 2025 Silver ADDY.
Film and video became another important component of the communications strategy. HCP produced an approximately four-minute Virtual Facility Tour of Source 1’s Global Network Operations Center, translating a highly technical environment into a compelling visual story for customers, partners and prospects. The production earned two 2025 Silver Telly Awards and a PRSA PRestige Award of Excellence.
HCP also built and continues to manage Source 1’s corporate newsroom and editorial program, transforming technical expertise and company developments into news releases, leadership announcements, technical articles, culture stories and thought leadership. As Source 1 expanded internationally, HCP supported corporate communications and market positioning across the United States, UK and EMEA.
The integrated relationship allows new capabilities, market developments and strategic initiatives to move efficiently across communications channels without requiring Source 1 leadership to repeatedly educate separate outside resources. HCP’s understanding of the company provides continuity as the organization grows and its communications needs become increasingly complex.

Great technology marketing requires more than understanding a client’s brand. It requires understanding the client’s business, its technologies, its customers and where leadership intends to take the organization.
For Source 1, that means continually learning the technologies, competitors, partners and industries surrounding an increasingly complex global company. It means understanding enough to develop the technical article, support the trade show, communicate corporate growth, build the website or create the next campaign without asking Source 1’s leadership to begin the education process again.
That depth of understanding also revealed the most important element of the Source 1 story. Technology was essential to what the company delivered, but the relationships Hessel built, the #ALL IN culture embraced by his people and the commitment to customers and partners were equally important to how Source 1 differentiated itself.
Our Source Code is Humanity did not invent that culture. It gave the culture a voice and created a platform capable of carrying it forward as the organization grows.
